The Chesterton boys volleyball team advanced to tonight’s Michigan City sectional championship by defeating Kouts, 3-0, this afternoon.
The Trojans (25-4) face Washington Township (19-3) at 6 p.m. in Michigan City’s gymnasium.
Looking sharper than in Thursday’s five-set quarterfinal win over South Central, Chesterton dominated the first two sets 25-15, 25-13 and won the third 27-25.
“Having a day to have a good practice and break down what Kouts did really helped us out a lot,” Chesterton coach Kevin Labaj said.
After George O’Connor soared way above the net for the final point of the third set, the Trojans gathered their belongings and headed to Labaj’s sister’s church “right down the road, so well’ go there and hang out.”
In matches vs. nine common opponents, Chesterton went 11-2, Washington Township 8-3.
“They’re a really good team, they’re very scrappy,” Labaj said of the Senators. “They have more weapons than Kouts does. I think they’re going to be able to jump out of the gym a little bit more, so we’re going to have to focus on what we’re doing and how we’re blocking to be able to beat them tonight.”
