Those who believe in arriving fashionably late to events need to kick that habit if they plan on attending the Chesterton volleyball Maroon & Gold scrimmage Friday, at 4 p.m. The best of the five sets for the volleyball squad that plays a high-flying, fast-paced brand of volleyball will be the first.
That’s when the varsity plays against the varsity, with an interesting twist this time.
“It’s kind of fun because we have six seniors, so we’re putting all six seniors on one team and we’re going to do senior class vs. the rest of the team, and they’re pretty excited about that,” Nibert said.
The six seniors: Tenley Davis, Abby Parrish, Ryliegh Connor, Brooke Williams, Elaina Markwart and Peyton Ello.
The non-seniors: Juniors Luca Bombacino and Madison Gilliam, sophomores Reese Dilbeck and Delaney Barrett, freshman Audrey Roach, plus a JV player who will pulled up for the first set.
Splitting the rosters in this way makes for a potentially competitive match because the two dynamic All-DAC hitters, Davis and Bombacino, play for opposing teams, as do the two setters, Dilbeck and Parrish, as well as the two liberos, Connor and Dilbeck. Getting the first feel for how much improvement Gilliam, a middle blocker with a high ceiling, has made in the offseason is another factor that makes today’s scrimmage worth watching.
The varsity vs. varsity match is being played first to accommodate parents who have children playing in both the volleyball scrimmage the football scrimmage that kicks off at 6 p.m.
The rest of the sets in the volleyball Maroon & Gold: varsity vs. JV, JV vs. JV, JV vs. freshman, freshman vs. freshman.
