The first day of the Valparaiso girls tennis sectional, scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed because of rain. The plan now calls for the tournament to be played Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, weather permitting.
The postponement pushes back for at least a day what seems like an inevitable championship match between Chesterton and Valparaiso.
The pairings released Monday night on IHSAATV.org have the Trojans on the top half of the bracket, the tournament hosts on the bottom half.
The Trojans now are scheduled to face Kouts on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. on the Valpo courts, and Boone Grove and Valpo are scheduled to play at the same time, weather allowing. The two DAC schools would have to be considered heavy favorites to win those matches. If they do, Valpo would advance to a semifinal match vs. Wheeler and Chesterton would take on Portage in the other semi on Thursday. Again, the Trojans and Vikings would be heavy favorites to advance.
Barring additional postponements, the title match would be played Friday at 4:30 p.m.
Chesterton won at Valpo, 4-1, in the regular season, winning both doubles matches and the No. 1 singles match in straight sets and the No. 3 singles match in three sets.
No. 1 doubles team Aleksa Sorgic and Amelia Smith take a 17-1 record into the postseason and No. 2 doubles Anisa Faroh and Lauren Pilarski went 18-0.
