It’s a tale as old as time: teenagers dressed to the nines
take hundreds of photos, eat a formal buffet-style
dinner, and dance the night away. For many, prom night
is one of the most memorable moments of high school.
And for CHS students, it was – with a twist.
This year’s prom, held at the Duneland Falls Banquet
Center, had a theme of Rock and Roll.
“It was a cute concept, and I like the decorations,” said
senior Sophia Persin, who attended the dance with a
group of friends. The venue boasted golden door
streamers, record-shaped placemats, and plenty of ‘80s
tunes.
But the festivities started long before the lights dimmed
over the dance floor. Students spent the day getting
ready together, driving to different locations for photo

shoots, and laughing over TikTok transition videos they
filmed.
Once the doors closed at 6:00, a dinner of pasta, grilled
potatoes, and chicken was served. And after everyone’s
stomachs settled the dancing commenced.
“I think everyone’s favorite part of prom is when they
play fun songs that everyone knows,” said senior Logan
Arthur. “There are some classic songs that they play at
every prom. Those are the ones that people get the most
excited about, and they bring the energy up.”
The highlight of the night? According to Persin, “Dancing
with my gals!”
Chesterton’s prom is notoriously well-attended. Because
of the venue size, sophomores aren’t allowed in: there
wouldn’t be enough space. Even so, the prom easily had
500 juniors and seniors in attendance. When asked why
the CHS prom is so well-attended, her answer was
simple.
“There’s a lot of people in our school in general,” she
said. “But I just think everybody knows it’ll be a good
time. Plus, everyone likes to get dressed up.”

Arthur echoed Persin’s sentiment, and offered some
insight of his own.
“I think that everyone loves getting dressed up and going
to have a fun time with all of their friends,” said Arthur.
“I also think that Chesterton puts on a really fun prom,
and it’s in a different place than school, which helps
people disassociate prom from school. Also, the DJ takes
song requests from people, which helps them stay longer
so they can hear the songs they want.”
But the best part about the prom wasn’t the song
requests, photo booth, or even the loaded, full-service
ice cream bar that appeared at 8:00. And at the end of
the day – literally – it was the people that mattered.
“The highlight of my night for me was just dancing with
all of my friends,” Arthur said. “We stayed until the very
end, and it was so much fun dancing with not too many
people around us. We were able to just let loose and
have the most fun.”
In a night peppered with photo ops, photo booths, and
too many selfies to count, it was the connections among
friends that really made the night worth capturing.
