As close as junior Kenedi Bradley came to three school records on an April Day in a track meet, nobody will be surprised to one day see her name next to the two individual marks and the one relay in Chesterton’s record book.
Multiple runners called the conditions Wednesday at Crown Point, where the Trojans defeated the Bulldogs, 74-58, and Michigan City, 109.5-22.5, “perfect” for running, and Bradley and several teammates equaled the conditions.
Bradley ran her best time in the 100 meters, the 200 meters and the 49.06 that the 4x100 relay that she anchors ran the fastest time of any on which she has run. Seniors Ava Kontos, Sydney Morris and Kaylee Dade joined Bradley on the relay.
“I’m improving for sure,” Bradley said. “My blocks were perfect yesterday, and I was so upset because we thought I got the record for the 200. It’s 25.37 and I ran a 25.38.”
She came one one-hundredth of a second from matching Camryn Dunn’s school record in the 200, one-tenth of a second from matching her record in the 100, and the 4x4 came within 0.56 seconds from tying the record set by Lena Raffin, Katie McColly, Bailey Huddleston and Megan Erminger in 2007 in the 4x100 relay.
Baton exchanges are huge in the 4x1, so it wasn’t surprising to hear Bradley say, “They were clean. Really good. I couldn’t even see a flaw. They were perfect. We ran really well.”
That trend extended beyond the 4x100 relay.
In the 100, the Trojans swept all three places, Dade taking second with an identical time (12.64) as the third-place Kontos, who also finished in second in the 200, clocked in 26.16.
McCrovitz won the 400 with a 1:02.48 and fellow junior Aubrey Bamber (1:02.94) placed third. They also ran well in the 4x400. Joined by freshman Taylor Kisic and Dade, they posted a 4:06, despite one poor handoff.
Even without senior Veronica Wilgocki being used, the 4x800 relay performed well with four freshmen. Hannah Harring, Taylor Kisic, Paige Clancy and Natalie Williams combined to run a 10:02. Harring also placed third in the 800 with a 2:27.61 and had a split a few seconds faster than that in the relay in the meet’s first event.
Wilgocki set a pair of personal bests. She ran the 800 meters (2:24.49), her long-time event, and in the 1600 (5:25.86), her new event.
Junior Lauren Kroft had her best times in the 1600 (5:34.47) and 3200 (11:54.07).
Junior Lux Mountford lowered her best 300 hurdles, running a 47.71.
Senior Autmn Spencer threw the discus 119 feet, her best by more than a foot.
Senior Hailey Geiser won both the long jump, with a lifetime best 17-3-1/2, and the high jump with a 5-2.
Chesterton swept the top three spots in the pole vault: 1. Ava Persin (8-6); 2. Luc Raffin (8-0); 3. Lauren Drewes (7-0).
