Chesterton High identical sisters Cassie and Olivia Lange went their separate ways in sports at a young age, but going to different colleges? That they only wanted to do if they couldn’t continue their athletic careers any other way.
“At first we 100% wanted to go to school together and then during the recruiting process we were having a hard time trying to find a school where we could go together, and then Roosevelt (University) came and it was awesome because we’re going to be able to go together,”
Olivia said at the sisters’ signing ceremonies attended by their triplet brother Robbie, a soccer player, and a big turnout of teammates, friends and family. “If we had to go to different schools to play, we would have.”
Cassie plays volleyball, Olivia soccer.
The sisters attended each other’s contests in the fall at Chesterton when their schedules didn’t overlap, which wasn’t that often. They weren’t in attendance because they loved their sister’s sport. They were there to support each other.
Looking years back, Olivia said, “We started one season of volleyball, and I hated it.”
Said Cassie: “I just didn’t like soccer. I didn’t like running for the ball and then not getting it and running back.”
Their sport preferences aren’t their only differences. For one thing, Cassie is left-handed, Olivia right-handed.
But they did play similar roles in their different fall sports. Both were scrappy, vocal, popular with teammates, and trained hard to come back from injuries.
“We were both leaders on our team,” Olivia said.
Cassie shared another similarity: “For both of us, it’s really important. It’s the biggest thing that’s important to us.”
Olivia was the first one recruited by Roosevelt, and Cassie accompanied her on her campus visit. Cassie liked what she saw and contacted the Roosevelt volleyball coach.
“It turns out that my club coach is friends with him, and he came to a practice,” Cassie said.
He liked what he saw, and the sisters will be playing their sports at the same school.
A 2024 Academic All-Star, Cassie is a four-year scholar athlete and a member of the National Honors Society, as well as a two-time sportsmanship award winner and a Trojan Award recipient. Cassie has not yet decided on a major.
Olivia has a 4.3 GPA. She won the team’s Mental Attitude Award as both a junior and senior and was academic all-state both years. She is a member of the National Honor Society and plans to major in Early Childhood Education at Roosevelt. As a senior, she was a team captain and an All-DAC selection.
