To hoop or to sprint, that is the question, and the girl facing it for a change is in no hurry to answer it.
Kenedi Bradley still has one year remaining to pursue both of her athletic passions in high school for the benefit of Chesterton.
Bradley has improved each year at both sports and was the best on the team from the day she arrived.
There are colleges that would love to have Bradley competing in both sports, but those schools don’t compete at a level that meets her athletic ambition.
“If I want to be a D-1 athlete, I’ll definitely have to pick only one because I feel that would be a lot, and I definitely want to go D-1,” Bradley said after her strong showing at the state meet, where she took second in the 100 meters (11.75) and fifth in the 200 (24.66, breaks own school record). “That’s been my goal since forever.”
At the state meet at North Central High School in Indianapolis, Bradley broke her own school record in the 200 meters with a time of 24.66 and ran a strong anchor leg in the 4x100 relay, breaking the school record in that event for the third time this season.
This past weekend, Bradley kept her good times rolling on the track and maximized her exposure in basketball.
In basketball, Bradley participated in the Top 100 Workout and in the Charlie Hughes team tournament, both heavily attended by college coaches. Bradley made what her high school coach, Candy Wilson, termed on X “a great showing.” She also swept the 100 and 200 sprints, running for the Indiana All-Stars at the Midwest Meet of Champions, registering nearly identical times to her state meet performances.
If she’s leaning in one direction, she’s keeping that to herself.
“Not really,” Bradley said. “I still have my love for basketball and my love for track is growing and growing more every day. I’m just going to see what happens in the summer.”
A three-time All-DAC selection, Bradley was not one of the 18 Indiana Junior All-Stars selected to play earlier this month in games against the Indiana All-Stars and the Kentucky Junior All-Stars.
Bradley and De’Janay DeLayne (runner-up in the 200 meters; fifth in the 100) of Evansville North were the only members of the Class of 2026 to finish in the top five in two individual events at the Indiana state meet.
As a sophomore, Bradley placed fifth in the 100 meters when the meet was at Indiana University, qualifying her to compare the two sites.
“I love IU Bloom. I love it there. It’s gorgeous,” Bradley said. “But being here is definitely an experience. I really like it here. The track is really nice. It’s very fast. It’s a fast track, for sure. And who knew a high school would have this big of stands. It’s insane.”
In other words, she likes both venues. She also likes both basketball and track. She’ll make her decision when the timing is right. For now, she’ll enjoy both sports to the benefit of everyone watching her perform.
