Chesterton junior gymnast Sammie Boster, defending state champion in the balance beam, had a stellar day in every event but that one Saturday at the DAC Gymnastics Championships, held at Bailly Elementary.
Boster won the floor (9.725), vault (9.575) and all-around (38.175) competitions, despite finishing no better than sixth in the balance beam with a 9.275 score. She took second in the bars (9.600), behind Valparaiso’s Ava Moe (9.750), the second-place finisher in the all-around (37.800).
Chesterton didn’t have another gymnast finish in the top 12 in any event, but Boster’s point total alone was enough to land the Trojans a fifth-place finish among the eight schools.
Valparaiso won the team competition with 110.70 points, followed by 2. Portage (105.650), 3. Lake Central (105.650), 4. Merrillville (104.475), 5. Chesterton (103.600), 6. Crown Point (103.375), 7. LaPorte (101.675), 8. Michigan City (93.500).
