The prestigious Charlie Hughes Indiana Boys High School Shootout in Carmel up next for Trojans basketball this weekend to wrap up a busy June

The boys basketball players from the host school of the Chesterton Summer League looked exhausted as they went through the motions in the first half of their final home summer game Tuesday night vs. Illiana Christian before turning it into a rout in the second half.
Exhaustion is one of the purposes of summer basketball.
“That's what you want to do for the summer. You really want to get to that last day and be super tired, be exhausted,” 11th-year Chesterton coach Marc Urban said. “We practiced this morning, came back in, played two games, and we’ll be back in the morning tomorrow. So there's a lot. It's busier than the season sometimes, but I feel when you get to that point, you get a chance to recover, feel better, clear your mind, rest, relax, you’ve gotten better.”
Growing pains.
“We're not trying to make these guys feel comfortable in the summer,” Urban said. “We want to get as uncomfortable as we can in that way so that you can grow through that.”
The last of four Tuesdays of the June league started for the Trojans with a close win over South Bend Riley, which was playing without Da’Kori Parker, a Junior Indiana All-Star point guard. Chesterton was without rising junior Cooper Huwig, out with a sprained ankle.
At the start of the month, Urban said he talked with his players about “everybody’s in a new seat at the table and your responsibilities that come along with that are different. We’ve played 18 or 19 games now, so you’re hoping that from the first week of June, second week of June, third week of June, you have a little bit of a feel of what your new role is.”
All of which will be put to test this weekend (June 26-28) at the Charlie Hughes Indiana Boys High School Shootout in Carmel.
“It’s a great event. The difference is they’re real games with four quarters, clock stops, so it doesn't have a summer league feel to it,” Urban said. “There’s not a running clock and you can foul out and all that stuff. It’s also really fun the amount of teams that are in it. You can watch a lot of really good games, and college coaches are there, so that makes it important as well.”
The schedule has Chesterton playing “four really good teams. New Castle will probably be top three in the state in the preseason poll. So, it’ll be good to have a really good test right away. Terre Haute North has been to the semi-state in back-to-back years, and Whiteland and Guerin Catholic are both good teams as well.”
Barring injuries, Chesterton has been going with a starting lineup of Tobias Ray and Cooper Huwig in the backcourt and Bradly Basila, Tommy Kostbade and Gunner Ello in the frontcourt. Freshman Tate Huwig has filled in of late for his injured brother.
