Remember it as the spring that Jake Bobin made a huge leap forward. He won the Rochester Invitational at Round Barn and the DAC championship at Aberdeen. Played well enough in the sectional at Forest Park to advance without teammates to the regional at Sandy Pines, where he was on his game and advanced to state. He lost just one nine-hole match.
Based on a points system, Bobin earned all-state honors from the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association.
In multiple tournaments, four freshmen joined Bobin in the lineup and not always the same four, so if enough golfers show significant improvement next season, he could have company at the state tournament.
Final DAC standings: 1. Crown Point, 2. Valparaiso, 3. Lake Central, 4. Chesterton, 5. LaPorte, 6. Michigan City, 7. Portage, 8. Merrillville.
