Chesterton claims sixth consecutive girls tennis sectional title, dominating Portage 5-0 in the championship match, opens LaPorte regional play with first-round match vs. New Prairie

Chesterton breezed to its sixth consecutive girls tennis title, winning 14 of the 15 points during the three-day tournament at Valparaiso.
The Trojans defeated Portage in the title match 5-0 Thursday, the same score by which it won in the semifinal round vs. Boone Grove. Chesterton defeated sectional host Valparaiso in Tuesday’s opening round.
The Trojans, who haven’t lost in the sectionals since before COVID-19, advance to the LaPorte regional, where the Trojans face New Prairie in the first round on Tuesday, May 26. New Prairie defeated LaPorte in the final to claim its first sectional title.
No. 1 singles Kenzie Kania went 3-0 in the tournament as did No. 2 singles Kendall Gallion, No. 1 doubles Amelia Smith and Genevieve Driscoll, and No. 2 doubles Lizzy Navarro and Morgan Matthys. No. 3 singles Emma Dobson lost in three sets to Valpo and won her next two matches by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Kania improved her season record to 19-2, including a 7-0 record in the DAC. Gallion improved to 13-6, Dobson to 17-4.
Despite Smith being the lone returning doubles player, the two doubles teams are a combined 26-2. Smith and Driscoll are 15-1 and Navarro and Matthys are 11-1.
The Trojans went 7-0 during the conference season, winning their third DAC crown in four years.
